The Ministry of infrastructure proposes to establish a 45-year service life of grain carriers, and UZ has restricted their shipment abroad

On Monday, November 22, the Ministry of infrastructure of Ukraine published a revised draft order "on approval of the procedure for conducting a complex of diagnostic, repair and registration operations aimed at extending the service life of freight cars (except for freight cars of technological railway transport enterprises intended for moving goods for production purposes within the territory of such enterprises), established by the manufacturer, the terms of extending the operation of such cars".

Unlike the previous version of the order, the new one proposes to postpone the deadline for bringing the maximum service life of gondolas and grain carriers to the standard one from 2028 to 2031. It is also planned to gradually reduce the terms of extending the service life of the most common rolling stock, and ban it for grain carriers and gondolas from 2031.

For 2022, it is proposed to set the maximum service life of gondolas at 44 years (with a standard service life of 22 years), grain carriers – 45 years (30 years), which is 2 years more than in the previous version.

Since the beginning of the year, the turnover of UZ freight cars has increased by 1.5 days – from 7.16 days in January to 8.48 days in October, including the turnover of gondola cars – from 6.21 to 7.39 days.

Transportation market participants have repeatedly stated that the main problem of Ukrzaliznytsia is the lack of traction, which is why cars turn into trains on wheels. However, instead of investing in the locomotive fleet, the Ministry of infrastructure and UZ decided to write off freight cars that are in working order by limiting their service life.

In addition, since November 21, Ukrzaliznytsia has introduced a convention for the acceptance and shipment of railcars to the Baltic states and the CIS, in particular: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The ban applies to all recipients and will remain in effect until canceled.

Earlier, the Criminal Code banned the use of foreign railcars to send cargo abroad, which practically stopped the supply of soybeans to Belarus.
