Harvesting of late crops in Ukraine is still delayed

Rainfall in western and northern Ukraine continues to delay the harvest of late crops, and rains forecast for this week will further delay work and increase concerns about the quality and yield of soybeans and sunflowers.
According to operational data from the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, as of September 25, 30.423 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were threshed from 7.214 million hectares (63% of the planned area) in Ukraine, with an average yield of 4.22 t/ha, while as of September 26, 2024, 34.288 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were harvested from 7.95 million hectares (72% of the area) with an average yield of 4.31 t/ha.
Currently, the following has been collected by culture:
- wheat – 22.525 million tons (22.33 million tons on this date last year) from 5.02 million hectares or 98% of the area with a yield of 4.49 tons/hectare;
- barley – 5.33 (5.54) million tons from 1.346 million hectares or 98% of the area with a yield of 3.96 tons/hectare;
- peas – 627 thousand tons from 266 thousand hectares or 97% of the area with a yield of 2.36 tons/hectare;
- corn – 964.2 thousand tons from 195.9 thousand hectares (5%) with a yield of 4.92 tons/hectare (last year on this date 4.72 million tons from 920.7 thousand hectares or 23% of the area with a yield of 5.13 tons/hectare);
- buckwheat – 66.9 thousand tons from 46.5 thousand hectares (67%) with a yield of 1.44 tons/hectare (115.5 thousand tons from 78.3 thousand hectares or 88% of areas with a yield of 1.47 tons/hectare);
- millet – 50.5 thousand tons from 31.1 thousand hectares (58%) with a yield of 1.62 tons/hectare (147.75 thousand tons from 77.7 thousand hectares or 84% of areas with a yield of 1.9 tons/hectare).
Also, on the specified date, the following amount of oilseeds was harvested:
- sunflower – 4.113 million tons from 2.24 million hectares (43.6%) with a yield of 1.84 tons/hectare (6.659 million tons from 3.268 million hectares or 66% of areas with a yield of 2.04 tons/hectare);
- rapeseed – 3.303 million tons from 1.276 million hectares (101%) with a yield of 2.59 tons/hectare (3.457 million tons from 1.266 million hectares or 100% of areas with a yield of 2.73 tons/hectare);
- soybeans – 1.511 million tons from 749.7 thousand hectares (35%) with a yield of 2.02 tons/hectare (3.504 million tons from 1.646 million hectares or 62% of areas with a yield of 2.13 tons/hectare).
At the same time, the harvesting of sugar beets continues in Ukraine, of which as of September 25, 1.42 million tons were harvested from 29 thousand hectares or 15% of the planned area with an average yield of 49.04 tons/hectare (2.459 million tons from 51.8 thousand hectares or 20% of the area with a yield of 47.51 tons/hectare).
In the Russian Federation, as of September 25, 2025, 5.1 million tons of sunflower were harvested from 3.6 million hectares or 30% of the sown area, which is almost the same as last year.
In the 2025/26 MY (as of September 26), Ukraine exported 6.167 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, of which 1.962 million tons in September, while last year at this time 10.295 million tons of grain were exported, of which 2.828 million tons in September, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reports, citing operational data from the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
Currently, the following crops have been exported:
- wheat – 4.341 million tons (in 2024/25 MY – 5.963 million tons);
- barley – 799 thousand tons (1.318 million tons);
- rye – 0 (7.5 thousand tons);
- corn – 907 thousand tons (2.748 million tons).
Total exports of Ukrainian flour since the beginning of the season as of September 26 amounted to 14.5 thousand tons (in the 2024/25 MY - 19 thousand tons), in particular wheat - 13.9 thousand tons (17.1 thousand tons).
