Increased supplies from Argentina eased tensions in the global sunflower market
According to Oil World, the activation of sunflower exports from Argentina is somewhat easing tensions on the world market, and in the short and medium term may lead to a decrease in prices, which have increased due to a reduction in sunflower production in the Northern Hemisphere, reports APK-Inform.
In early December, Argentina sent one ship each with sunflower to Portugal and South Africa, with a total volume of 50-60 thousand tons, and in January it plans to send a third ship to the Black Sea region, although the final destination has not yet been determined.
According to Oil World analysts, in 2025/26 MY Argentina will increase its sunflower exports compared to the previous season from 133 to 460 thousand tons, and the volume of processing due to the introduction of new capacities will reach 5.4 million tons (compared to 4.4 million tons in 2024/25 MY and 3.7 million tons in 2023/24 MY). Accordingly, exports of sunflower oil and meal from Argentina in 2025/26 MY will increase compared to the previous season by 0.3 to 1.83 million tons and by 0.4 to 1.75 million tons, respectively.
