Ukraine increased exports of nitrogen fertilizers, despite their shortage in the domestic market

The Association "Ukrainian club of agricultural business" reported with reference to state customs data that in November 2021, Ukraine exported 105 thousand tons of nitrogen fertilizers worth 6 62 million, including 63 thousand tons of urea, 16 thousand tons of lime-ammonium nitrate and 25.5 thousand tons of urea-ammonia mixture (UAC). The main buyers of fertilizers were Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Argentina and some other countries.

At the same time, according to the State Customs Service, the urea-ammonia mixture was exported at an average price of 3 317/ton, while in the domestic market of Ukraine its cost at that time exceeded 6 600/ton (excluding VAT). According to experts, this indicates a dumping export of scarce goods.

At the same time, the import of nitrogen fertilizers to Ukraine in November reached 275 thousand tons worth 1 136 million, which is significantly higher than in previous months. UKAB experts explain this by the high cost and shortage of fertilizers on the domestic Ukrainian market, caused by high prices for raw materials for their manufacture and restraining sales by domestic producers.

In particular, during November, Ukraine imported 82 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate, 70 thousand tons of urea, 55 thousand tons of urea-ammonia mixture (UAC), 37 thousand tons of dehydrated ammonia and 29 thousand tons of ammonium sulfate. The main suppliers of these fertilizers are Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Poland, Bulgaria, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia and Turkmenistan.
