Freight rates for river transportation are falling, and for rail transportation are increasing
In October, Ukraine exported about 3 million tons of agricultural products by sea and river. However, so far the use of the alternative sea corridor has been limited by the number of ships entering and leaving the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in order to ensure the safety of the convoy.
According to Spike Brokers, increasing shipments through the Black Sea ports reduces the flow of goods in the direction of the Danube ports and, accordingly, lowers river freight rates.
Currently, rates for transportation by water transport are:
- Izmail — Constanta, Romania — 30-35 €/t (1-3 thousand tons),
- Izmail — Eastern Italy — $60-65/t (4-6 thousand tons),
- Izmail — Greece — $48-51/t (3-4 thousand tons),
- Chornomorsk — Spain — $52-58/t (25-35 thousand tons),
- Chornomorsk — Spain — $42-48/t (55-65 thousand tons).
Against the background of growing demand for transportation in the direction of the Black Sea ports, Ukrzaliznytsia increased the rates for the use of CTL wagons in November. Thus, compared to October, the cost of grain trucks will increase by UAH 400 to UAH 1,000/day, and the price of cement trucks converted into semi-wagons will increase by UAH 100 to UAH 650/day.
At the same time, the rent of semi-wagons will decrease from UAH 1,350 to UAH 1,200/day, the cost of food tankers will be UAH 1,200/day, and mineral trucks for the transportation of grain cargoes will be UAH 50/day.
