Bulgarian farmers plan to harvest over 7 million tons of wheat this year

According to forecasts by the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture, based on observations conducted by the agency's experts in six regions of the country in June, local farmers will be able to harvest 6.6-7.1 million tons of wheat this year, bourgas.ru reports. However, agricultural producers are concerned about low grain prices.
For comparison, last year, as of early August, 6.4 million tons of wheat had been harvested, which was 4% more than the previous year. The forecast for this year was made long before the harvest was completed, and about 80% of the wheat crop and more than 90% of the barley crop have already been threshed. The highest wheat yield is expected in the South-Eastern region, but farmers consider the experts' optimistic forecasts to be out of touch with reality.
Agricultural producers believe that due to adverse weather conditions, this year's wheat harvest will be smaller than expected. But they are most concerned about the price of wheat, which is almost 100 leva/t lower than last year. The country's grain producers' association reports that such low prices for wheat have not been seen in the past 15 years.
