Metallurgical plant "Azovstal" was built in Mariupol in 1933, at the place where the Kalmius river flows into the Azov sea. Harbor water created artificially. Telecompanies began in 1932 and was completed in 1935, Originally the port was built for reception from Kerch hot agglomerate (raw material for iron production). For these purposes we have created a special series of vessels.
Sinter berths operated before 1994, before the closure of the Kerch production. Now the berths are not in operation, the agglomerate is supplied by rail.
In the 80-ies. were built 2 berth: slag (to send slag) and leaf (for sending products by sea, primarily large-size sheet).
Since 1992 the port "Azovstal" is open for foreign vessels.
The port is part of the open joint stock company "Metallurgical plant Azovstal" as the shop shipping.
Total port capacity – 1 million tons of cargo per hour.
Today the port handles steel products mill and slag.
The plant's products (slabs, billets, sheet, mostly large ones) are sent only to the countries of Black and Mediterranean seas. This is due to limitations on depths for large vessels.
PORT FACILITIES
The port has 5 berths specialized:
