Grain harvest in Ukraine accelerates, but exports remain lower than last year

As of September 28, grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine have been harvested from 7.114 million hectares, or 61% of the planned area. The total threshing is 34.31 million tons with an average yield of 48.2 centners/hectare.

For comparison, as of September 25 last year, 7.214 million hectares were harvested, or 63% of the forecast, and the gross harvest was 30.423 million tons with an average yield of 42.2 centners/hectare.

 

789 thousand tons of corn were threshed from 153.3 thousand hectares, or 3% of the area, with a yield of 51.5 centners/hectare. 44.7 thousand tons of buckwheat were harvested from 34.7 thousand hectares, or 71%, with a yield of 12.9 centners/hectare, and 75.4 thousand tons of millet from 32.8 thousand hectares, or 80%, with a yield of 23 centners/hectare.

Oilseed harvest is also accelerating. Sunflower was threshed at 3.362 million tons from 1.657 million hectares, or 32% of the area, with a yield of 20.3 centners/hectare. Soybeans were harvested at 1.215 million tons from 571 thousand hectares, or 36%, with a yield of 21.3 centners/hectare.

296.5 thousand tons of sugar beets were harvested from 5.8 thousand hectares, or 3% of the forecast, with an average yield of 511.2 centners/hectare.

 

At the same time, grain exports remain below last year's pace. Since the beginning of the 2026/27 MY as of September 28, Ukraine has exported 5.016 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, of which 1.283 million tons were shipped in September.

For comparison, as of October 1 last year, exports amounted to 6.556 million tons, including 2.351 million tons in September.

 

Since the beginning of the season, Ukraine has exported 2.609 million tons of wheat compared to 4.696 million tons last year, 440 thousand tons of barley compared to 825 thousand tons, 0.2 thousand tons of rye compared to 0.2 thousand tons, and 1.902 million tons of corn compared to 913 thousand tons.

Thus, wheat and barley exports are significantly lagging behind last year's pace, while corn shipments are more than double the previous season's figure.

 

Ukrainian flour exports since the beginning of the 2026/27 MY have amounted to 8.3 thousand tons compared to 15.3 thousand tons last year, including wheat flour - 7.6 thousand tons compared to 14.7 thousand tons.
