Harvesting in Ukraine is half as slow as last year, and precipitation is delaying it even further

Last week, Ukrainian farmers were able to increase the pace of grain harvesting, but precipitation in the west and center of the country over the weekend and at the beginning of this week again delayed the harvest.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Economy, as of July 24, 2025, 10.347 million tons of early grain and leguminous crops were threshed from 3.236 million hectares (29% of the planned area) in Ukraine with an average yield of 3.2 t/ha, while as of July 25, 2024, 19.25 million tons of grain were threshed from 4.79 million hectares with a yield of 4.02 t/ha.
Yes, on the specified date, the following was threshed:
- wheat — 7.089 million tons from an area of 2.18 million hectares (44%) with a yield of 3.25 tons/hectare (last year, 14.72 million tons were harvested from 3.5 million hectares with a yield of 4.2 tons/hectare);
- barley — 2.79 million tons from an area of 838.7 thousand hectares (61%) with a yield of 3.33 tons/hectare (3.87 million tons from 1.02 million hectares with a yield of 3.8 tons/hectare);
- peas — 412.4 thousand tons from an area of 190.9 thousand hectares (78%) with a yield of 2.16 tons/hectare (416.3 thousand tons from 189.8 thousand hectares with a yield of 2.2 tons/hectare);
- other grain and leguminous crops – 54.2 thousand tons from 28.5 thousand hectares (8%) with a yield of 1.9 tons/hectare (240.2 thousand tons from 73.5 thousand hectares with a yield of 3.3 tons/hectare).
Rapeseed harvesting continued in all regions of Ukraine, except Khmelnytskyi, as of July 24. So far, 1.04 million tons have been harvested from 535,000 hectares (42% of the planned area) with a yield of 1.94 tons/hectare (last year, 3.08 million tons were harvested from 1.09 million hectares with a yield of 2.8 tons/hectare).
Low rapeseed yields are confirmed, and prolonged rainfall in central and western Ukraine may also reduce the yield and quality of wheat and barley.
As of July 18, 23.9 million tons of wheat were threshed in the Russian Federation from 6.9 million hectares (9.8 million hectares last year) with a yield of 3.5 tons/hectare (3.7 tons/hectare). Of these, 20.9 million tons were harvested in the south, but harvesting has begun in the central regions, so the difference between the current and last year's yields is decreasing.
