Since December, the Egyptian agency Mostakbal Misr has supplied 1.1 million tons of wheat to GASC

Since December 1, 2024, Mostakbal Misr has supplied GASC with 1.1 million tons of wheat, most of which was purchased from private Russian sellers and the rest from Egyptian traders and intermediaries. However, GASC does not report when the 1.1 million tons of wheat arrived in the country.

Egypt is one of the world’s largest wheat importers, so markets are closely watching government procurement, which was transferred from GASC to a new agency, Mostakbal Misr, at the end of 2024. However, the lack of tenders and uncertainty with private procurement make it difficult to assess flows, especially from major suppliers in the Black Sea region.

According to Bloomberg, in the 2024/25 MY, Egypt plans to purchase 5-6 million tons of wheat for the bread subsidy program, and total wheat imports could amount to 12.5 million tons.
