India's rapeseed production to surpass soybean production again – USDA FAS
According to the forecast of FAS USDA experts, in the 2026/27 MY, rapeseed production in India will increase by 2% compared to the previous season to 12.1 million tons, and soybeans will decrease by 3% to 10.35 million tons. The total oilseed harvest will be 41 million tons.
Indian farmers are reducing soybean acreage due to low soybean prices and switching to more profitable crops, so for the second year in a row, rapeseed remains the country's main oilseed crop.
Soybean meal production is expected to be 20.1 million tons, and its consumption will decrease by 7%, while rapeseed and peanut consumption will increase by 3%.
Exports of Indian non-GMO meal will also grow: soybean meal by 13% (mainly to the EU), rapeseed meal by 10%. China will remain the main buyer of meal.
Vegetable oil production will amount to 9.5 million tons, with rapeseed oil growing by 2% and soybean oil decreasing by 2%. Imports of vegetable oils will account for 2/3 of consumption. Since November, the country has reduced imports of sunflower oil by 21% and increased purchases of soybean oil by 7%.
