Production of major crops in Germany to decline due to heat

The DRV association of farmers' cooperatives has lowered its forecast for wheat production in Germany in 2026 from 22.63 to 21.89 million tons compared to June estimates, which will be 5.4% lower than last year due to severe heat and a lack of precipitation.

High temperatures led to premature ripening of wheat, which stopped the development of crops and reduced the number of grains or their size, DRV experts note.

Production of other crops is also expected to decline compared to last year, in particular winter barley - by 1.8% to 9.34 million tons, spring barley - by 19.5% to 1.46 million tons, corn - by 8.1% to 4.54 million tons.

At the same time, the association notes that winter rapeseed crops in the country were not too affected by the heat, so its production could reach 4.03 million tons, which would exceed last year's harvest by 1.5%.
