The Ukrhydrometeorological Center evaluated the consequences of the July heat for late crops

In the second decade of July, the agro-meteorological conditions were unfavorable for the formation of the harvest of late and vegetable crops and vegetables, - reported the Ukrhydrometeorological center.

In the period from July 1 to 20, in the southern and central regions, there were 7 to 16 days when the temperature exceeded 35 o C. There was no precipitation in most areas, only in the north and west of the country there were uneven rains. Such weather led to the spread of air-soil drought.

"High air and soil temperatures against the background of drought and dry spells had a negative impact on the development of crops of late crops. In the southern, eastern and central regions, premature drying of the leaves of the lower layer and curling of the upper leaves, drying of leaves in the green state, complete drying of plants in some places, weak formation of reproductive organs, in particular sunflower baskets, were observed in corn, sunflower, soybean and buckwheat plants. Burns were also recorded on the wrapping of corn cobs," the Ukrhydrometeorological Center reports.

According to experts, soil moisture in most areas decreased to an unsatisfactory level, and only in some fields of the western and northern regions, where the rains passed, the reserves of productive moisture in the meter layer of the soil were satisfactory.

Barva Invest experts predict that due to the heat, the corn harvest in Ukraine in 2024/25 MR will decrease by 21% compared to the previous season to 24.4 million tons, and the head of the agrometeorology department of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, T. Adamenko, believes that corn production will decrease by 20- 30%
