Ukraine is introducing a state registration procedure for GMOs, similar to the one in the EU

At a meeting on May 21, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution prepared by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on "Some Issues of State Registration of Genetically Modified Organisms", the purpose of which is to ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Law of Ukraine "On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities and State Control over the Placement on the Market of Genetically Modified Organisms and Products" and to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with the legislation of the European Union, the press service of the department reports.


The resolution approves:

  • procedure for state registration (re-registration) of GMOs;
  • procedure for suspending state registration of GMOs;
  • procedure for considering objections to an application for state registration of GMOs;
  • application form for state registration of GMOs;
  • application form for state registration of GMOs;
  • requirements for an application for state registration of GMOs.

 

The implementation of the resolution will ensure compliance with the provisions of the above-mentioned law, introduce the procedure for state registration (re-registration) of GMOs, and harmonize Ukrainian legislation in accordance with EU legislation.


The resolution will come into force together with the Law of Ukraine "On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities and State Control over the Placement of Genetically Modified Organisms and Products on the Market" on September 16, 2026, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reports.
