13% of corn crops remain unthreshed in Ukraine

According to operational data from the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, as of December 25, 2025, 57.597 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were threshed in Ukraine from 10.964 million hectares (94% of the planned area), with an average yield of 52.5 centners/hectare.

The harvesting of late grain crops, which have been threshed, is still ongoing:

  • corn – 27.458 million tons from 3.848 million hectares (87%) with a yield of 71.3 centners/hectare;
  • buckwheat – 82.7 thousand tons from 59.4 thousand hectares (97%) with a yield of 13.9 centners/hectare;
  • millet – 62.1 thousand tons from 35.8 thousand hectares (88%) with a yield of 17.4 centners/hectare.
  • sunflower – 9.227 million tons from 4.838 million hectares (93%) with a yield of 19.1 centners/hectare;
  • soybeans – 4.811 million tons from 2.029 million hectares (98%) with a yield of 23.7 centners/hectare.

The harvesting of sugar beets has also been completed, with 10.99 million tons harvested from 198.8 thousand hectares or 100% of the planned area, with an average yield of 552.7 centners/hectare.

In 2025, Ukraine harvested 57.6 million tons of grain and 17.3 million tons of oilseeds, which was the second result in the EU. After the completion of the corn harvest, the total volume of grain production should be about 60 million tons, the press service of the Ministry of Economy reports.

In total, in 2025, the production of grain and oilseed crops in Ukraine is estimated at approximately 75 million tons, which exceeds the figure for 2024, when 71.4 million tons of grain were harvested from 19.2 million hectares, including 52.1 million tons of grain and 19.3 million tons of oilseed crops.

The government emphasizes that these indicators are important in the context of Ukraine's European integration course. In terms of grain production, Ukraine ranks second among the European Union countries, second only to France (63.1 million tons) and ahead of Germany (45.2 million tons) and Poland (36.5 million tons).

Ukraine remains the undisputed leader in corn production in the EU. In 2025, Ukraine harvested 23.5 million tons of grain, while the total volume of corn production in the EU is 57 million tons.

Ukraine also holds the lead in sunflower production, harvesting 9 million tons compared to 8.5 million tons in all EU countries combined.

The average grain yield in Ukraine in 2025 was 5.08 t/ha, which is only 14% lower than the average for EU countries. According to this indicator, Ukraine is in 18th place among the 27 European Union countries.

At the same time, the average yield in Ukraine is 15% higher than in Spain and 11% higher than in Romania.

At the same time, grain yields in France and Germany remain 42–48% higher than in Ukraine. The Ministry of Economy calls this gap “significant potential” for further growth through investments, modern technologies, development of agricultural infrastructure, and expanded access to financing.
