In Ukraine, 76% of sunflower and 62% of soybean areas have already been threshed, but only 21% of corn

Dry weather in Ukraine this week has allowed farmers to increase the pace of harvesting late crops. Sunflower yields are 10% lower than last year, while yields of other crops are within the range of last season.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, as of October 16, 34.739 million tons of grain and legume crops were threshed from 7.98 million hectares (70% of the planned area) in Ukraine, with an average yield of 4.35 tons/ha, while last year, as of October 17, 42.806 million tons of grain and legume crops were harvested from 9.428 million hectares or 85% of the area, with an average yield of 4.54 tons/ha.
The following number of late crops have been collected so far:
- corn – 4.913 million tons from 895.2 thousand hectares or 21% of the area with a yield of 5.49 tons/hectare (last year, 13.2 million tons were threshed from 2.4 million hectares or 59% of the area with a yield of 5.5 tons/hectare);
- buckwheat – 82.4 thousand tons from 59 thousand hectares or 85% of the area with a yield of 1.4 tons/hectare (last year, 124.8 thousand tons were harvested from 86.3 thousand hectares or 97% of the area with a yield of 1.45 tons/hectare);
- millet – 59.9 thousand tons from 35.7 thousand hectares or 67% of the area with a yield of 1.68 tons/hectare (158.9 thousand tons were harvested from 84.4 thousand hectares or 91% of the area with a yield of 1.88 tons/hectare);
- sunflower – 7.194 million tons from 3.91 million hectares or 76% of the area with a yield of 1.84 tons/hectare (9.3 million tons were harvested from 4.5 million hectares or 91% of the area with a yield of 2.07 tons/hectare);
- soybeans – 3.08 million tons from 1.34 million hectares or 62% of the area with a yield of 2.29 tons/hectare (5.2 million tons were harvested from 2.3 million hectares or 88% of the area with a yield of 2.26 tons/hectare).
In addition, on the specified date, 4.72 million tons of sugar beets were harvested from 90 thousand hectares or 46% of the area with an average yield of 52.4 tons/hectare.
According to the latest data from the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in the 2025/26 MY (as of October 17), the country exported 7.897 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, of which 1.218 million tons in October, while last year, 12.483 million tons of grain were shipped during this period, in particular, 2.035 million tons in October.
By crop, the following were exported in the current season:
- wheat – 5.614 million tons (in 2024/25 MY – 7.081 million tons);
- barley – 977 thousand tons (1.588 million tons);
- rye – 0.2 thousand tons (10.6 thousand tons);
- corn – 1.138 million tons (3.543 million tons).
Total exports of Ukrainian flour since the beginning of the season as of October 17 amounted to 18.4 thousand tons (in the 2024/25 MY - 22.1 thousand tons), in particular wheat - 17.7 thousand tons (20.1 thousand tons).
