Harvesting of soybeans and sunflowers has begun in Ukraine

As of August 23, Ukraine has harvested 32.02 million tons of the new crop from an area of 8.04 million hectares, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
In total, 28.59 million tons of grain and 3.42 million tons of oilseeds have been harvested in Ukraine.
- Wheat has been fully harvested on 100% of the planned area (4.8589 million hectares), yielding 21.74 million tons with an average yield of 4.47 tons per hectare, compared to 4.79 tons per hectare last year.
- Barley has also been fully harvested on 100% of the planned area (1.3992 million hectares), yielding 5.5 million tons with an average yield of 3.92 tons per hectare (3.98 tons per hectare last year).
- Peas have been harvested on 99% of the planned area (207.6 thousand hectares), yielding 458.5 thousand tons with an average yield of 2.21 tons per hectare (compared to 2.59 tons per hectare last year).
- Millet has been harvested on 11.9 thousand hectares, yielding 20 thousand tons.
- Buckwheat has been harvested on 4.3 thousand hectares, yielding 6.2 thousand tons.
- Rapeseed has been harvested on 98% of the planned area (1.2277 million hectares), yielding 3.3619 million tons with an average yield of 2.74 tons per hectare (compared to 2.81 tons per hectare last year).
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, farmers in the Odesa region are leading the harvest, having completed 1.08 million hectares. The highest average yield is recorded in the Khmelnytskyi region at 6.55 tons per hectare.
Farmers in seven regions of Ukraine have begun harvesting soybeans and sunflowers:
- Sunflower has been harvested from 1% of the area (46.7 thousand hectares), yielding 51.7 thousand tons with an average yield of 1.09 tons per hectare. This is an improvement from last week's yield of 0.9 tons per hectare, but lower than last year's 1.93 tons per hectare.
- Soybeans have been harvested from 6.6 thousand hectares (0.3% of the area), yielding 7.2 thousand tons with an average yield of 1.09 tons per hectare, compared to 2.73 tons per hectare last year.
Farmers in the Vinnytsia region have also begun harvesting sugar beets, which have been dug up from an area of 200 hectares.
Last year, Ukraine harvested 82.8 million tons of grain and oilseeds. Wheat production amounted to 21.6 million tons, corn to 31 million tons, barley to 5.5 million tons, and oilseeds to 23 tons.
The pace of grain exports from Ukraine remains 60% higher than last year. According to the State Customs Service, as of August 23, 2024/25 marketing year, Ukraine has exported 6.385 million tons of grain and legumes, including 2.683 million tons in August, compared to 3.832 million tons and 1.558 million tons, respectively, on this date last year.
Grain export volumes by crop:
- Wheat: 3.089 million tons (compared to 1.597 million tons in the same period of 2023/24 marketing year).
- Barley: 1.089 million tons (compared to 440 thousand tons last year).
- Rye: 0.3 thousand tons (compared to 0.6 thousand tons last year).
- Corn: 2.185 million tons (compared to 1.788 million tons last year).
Flour exports in the current season amounted to 9.2 thousand tons, including 8.4 thousand tons of wheat flour. In the same period of the 2023/24 marketing year, 18.7 thousand tons of flour were exported, of which 18 thousand tons were wheat flour.
