The yield of corn in the east of Europe in 2024 significantly decreased due to drought

The German publication agrarheute published forecasts of corn yields for grain and silage in European countries in 2024, citing data from the German Maize Committee (DMK).
It is expected that in 2024 the EU countries will receive the following average yield of corn per silage :
- Ireland – 543 c/ha,
- Italy – 483 ts/ha,
- Poland – 470 c/ha,
- France – 460 c/ha,
- Germany - 434 t/ha,
- The Netherlands - 420 c/ha,
- Belgium – 390 c/ha,
- Spain – 368 ts/ha,
- Czech Republic – 345 ts/ha.
At the same time, the corn yield per grain in 2024 is predicted as follows:
- Spain – 121 c/ha,
- The Netherlands – 108 t/ha,
- Belgium – 105 c/ha,
- Austria – 102 ts/ha,
- Italy - 102 t/ha,
- Germany – 94 t/ha (compared to 97 t/ha in 2023),
- France – 93 c/ha,
- Czech Republic – 84 c/ha,
- Poland - 72 c/ha,
- Hungary – 62 t/ha,
- Bulgaria – 34 c/ha,
- Romania – 33 c/ha.
If in the west of Europe the productivity indicators are quite high, then in the southern and eastern regions they will be quite low due to unfavorable weather conditions, in particular, prolonged drought.
In Ukraine, on November 1, 18.3 million tons of corn were threshed from 3 million hectares or 76% of the area with a yield of 6.1 tons/ha, which is significantly lower than last year's 7.8 tons/ha.
