Pea harvest in Ukraine will be 30% higher than last year

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, as of August 3, 726.2 thousand tons of peas were threshed from 261.7 thousand hectares or 88% of the projected area in Ukraine, with an average yield of 2.78 tons/hectare.

 

Over the past week, the pace of harvesting has accelerated significantly, and the gross harvest has increased by 176.7 thousand tons.

 

The best yields were recorded in the western and northern regions, in particular in Volyn (3.5 t/ha), Lviv (3.43 t/ha), Khmelnytskyi (3.4 t/ha), Rivne (3.33 t/ha) and Sumy (3.32 t/ha).

 

The largest amount of peas was threshed by farmers in the Odessa region (79.2 thousand tons), Kirovohrad (75.1 thousand tons), Mykolaiv (62.7 thousand tons), Poltava (57.8 thousand tons) and Vinnytsia (50.4 thousand tons) regions.

 

The lowest yield indicators were recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions, where difficult weather conditions prevailed during the plant growing season and a shortage of precipitation was felt.

 

It is expected that in the current season, the pea harvest will reach 800-850 thousand tons, which will exceed the 2025/26 MY by 30% and the 2024/25 MY by 100%. Recall that in the 2025/26 MY, pea production in Ukraine increased by 40% compared to the previous season, from 465 to 653 thousand tons.

 

At the same time, against the backdrop of low export demand and excess supply, export purchase prices for peas in the current season decreased compared to last year's from $260-270/t CPT to $180-190/t.
