Ukrzaliznytsia intends to ban the use of private semi-wagons for the transportation of grain

Association "Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business" (UKAB) informs that at the meeting of the Export Office, the management of "Ukrzaliznytsia" spoke about the intention to ban the use of private semi-wagons for grain transportation.

Presumably, this is an attempt to keep the excessive profitability of services for the use of UZ wagons.

Ukrzaliznytsia is trying to keep the rate for the use of its own grain wagons at the level of at least UAH 2,795/day, since only 12% of offers were purchased at the last January auctions for the sale of grain truck leases at an average rate of UAH 2,865/day.

The market value of using private half-cars is currently about UAH 300/day. Therefore, even taking into account the cost of additional special polymer liners, the cost of transportation by semi-wagons will be half as much as by UZ grain trucks.

But instead of lowering the rates for the use of its own wagons to the market level, Ukrzaliznytsia decided to administratively get rid of the competition and keep the super-profitability of grain truck rental services, which can be considered as an abuse of the monopoly position, - said UKAB General Director Roman Slastyon.

The Association of the "Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business" opposes such a ban and calls on the management of Ukrzaliznytsia to reconsider its decision, reduce the cost of its services to the market level and adhere to the rules of fair competition.
