Ukrainian exporters of sunflower meal are reorienting supplies to Asian countries
According to APK-Inform, from September to June of the 2025/26 season, Ukraine reduced its exports of sunflower meal compared to the corresponding period of the previous season by 6% to 2.77 million tons, which was the lowest figure for this period in the last 15 years.
The reason for the reduction in exports was the low sunflower harvest and low processing margins in the current season, as well as the forced reorientation of the sales market from Europe to Asian countries.
For the first time in a long time, the share of Asian countries in total exports of Ukrainian sunflower meal reached 67%, while the share of EU countries decreased to 24%.
Compared to the corresponding period of the previous season, exports of meal to Asian countries increased by 74% to 1.85 million tons, in particular to China - by 69% to 1.7 million tons. At the same time, China's share in total exports increased from 35% to 63%. After a break of more than two years, deliveries of meal to India resumed, which amounted to 30.3 thousand tons during the specified period. Deliveries to Malaysia increased by 3.6 times to 24 thousand tons, to Hong Kong - by 14 times to 22 thousand tons, to Singapore - by 98% to 21 thousand tons.
However, the European market is dominated by Argentinean meal this season. According to the European Commission, in the 2025/26 marketing year, the share of Argentinean meal increased from 29% to 56% compared to the previous season, while Ukrainian meal decreased from 62% to 33%.
