Ukraine is finishing harvesting soybeans and sunflowers, but corn has been threshed on only 50% of the area

As of November 18, 62.32 million tons of major agricultural crops were harvested in Ukraine from 16.79 million hectares or 81% of the area. We will remind that in 2021 the harvest of grain, leguminous and oil crops in Ukraine amounted to a record 106 million tons, in particular oil crops - 22.6 million tons, and grain and leguminous crops - 84 million tons (32.4 million tons of wheat, 40 million tons corn, 10 million tons of barley, 581.5 thousand tons of peas, 191 thousand tons of millet, 110 thousand tons of buckwheat).

During November 11-18, 4.21 million tons were threshed from 0.71 million hectares, as the snow that fell on almost the entire territory of the country delayed harvesting.

The agrarians of the Mykolaiv region were the first to finish harvesting, having threshed 2 million tons of grain and leguminous crops. But the leaders are the producers of Vinnytsia and Kirovohrad regions, who collected more than 3 million tons, and the highest yield of grain and leguminous crops - 6.48 tons/ha was obtained in Khmelnytskyi region.

As of November 17, 39.1 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were threshed in Ukraine from 9 million hectares or 81% of the area, with an average yield of 4.34 tons/ha, in particular:

  • 19.2 million tons of wheat from 4.7 million hectares,
  • 5.5 million tons of barley from 1.6 million hectares,
  • 261 thousand tons of peas from 111.5 thousand hectares,
  • 12.3 million tons of corn from 2.1 million hectares or 50% of the area with a yield of 5.83 tons/ha,
  • 156 thousand tons of buckwheat from 115 thousand hectares or 98% of the area (1.37 tons/ha),
  • 98 thousand tons of millet from 42.6 thousand hectares or 95% of the area (2.31 tons/ha).

Harvesting of oil crops is completed:

  • 9.8 million tons of sunflower were threshed from 4.5 million hectares or 96% of the area (16.3 million tons last year) with a yield of 2.17 tons/ha,
  • 3.6 million tons of soybeans were collected from 1.5 million hectares or 97% of the area (3.4 million tons last year) with a yield of 2.4 tons/ha,
  • 3 million tons of rapeseed were harvested (2.9 million tons last year).

In addition, 7.9 million tons of sugar beets were collected from 161 thousand hectares or 90% of the area with a yield of 4.94 tons/ha.

Ukraine is increasing the pace of exports, and in November it already exported 2.75 million tons of grain crops, including 1.14 million tons of wheat, 1.39 million tons of corn, 199 thousand tons of barley, 5 thousand tons of rye, and 9.2 thousand tons of flour.

In general, in 2022/23 MR, as of November 18, the export of grain crops decreased compared to the same period last year by 31.3%, from 23.2 to 15.95 million tons, in particular:

  • wheat - 2.2 times to 6.14 million tons,
  • barley - 3.7 times to 1.31 million tons,
  • rye - 6.8 times to 11.2 thousand tons,
  • flour - by 1.4% to 47.6 thousand tons,
  • at the same time, corn exports doubled to 8.44 million tons.

Active corn exports are driven by significant carry-over stocks, while delayed harvests will push port purchase prices higher in the near term as shipment rates continue to rise.
