In April, Ukraine exported 763 thousand tons of grain

Ukraine is gradually increasing the rate of grain exports across its western borders. Thus, according to StoneX, last week, for the first time since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukraine shipped corn from the Romanian port of Panamax, transported across the border with Romania.

Rail transport of grain increased in April, but still accounts for only 55% of the country's western capacity.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, 763 thousand tons of grain were exported in April, including 115 thousand tons of wheat, 622 thousand tons of corn and 25 thousand tons of barley, and in total in 2021/22 MY grain exports amounted to 45.7 million tons .5 million tons, corn - 21.1 million tons, barley - 5.7 million tons.

Ukraine is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of agricultural products. Thus, for the last 3 seasons the average annual total export of only 4 main goods - wheat, corn, sunflower oil and meal amounted to 58.1 million tons, or more than 14% of total world exports of these items. At the same time, the share of Ukrainian exports in total world trade in corn is 15%, wheat - 10%, sunflower oil - 51%, sunflower meal - 58%.

The main buyers of Ukrainian grain are the EU, China, Turkey, Egypt and Indonesia. And the share of Ukrainian supplies in the total imports of these countries is quite large. For example, in 2020/21 MY the share of Ukrainian corn in the total volume of corn imports to China reached 29%, to Egypt - 25%, to the EU - 51%. The share of Ukrainian wheat in the total volume of wheat imports to Indonesia was 25%, to Egypt - 20%, Turkey - 10%.
