Ukraine is increasing sugar exports, but no EU country is among the TOP 5 main buyers

According to the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine "Ukrsugar", during the first five months of the 2024/25 MY, Ukraine exported over 352 thousand tons of sugar, which is 17% higher than the corresponding figure of the previous season.

All of this volume was directed to markets outside the EU, while in September 2023 - January 2024, only 9.5% of exports were delivered there.

"The significant increase in the share of the world market in the structure of sugar exports was the result of the efforts of Ukrainian producers to find new sales channels caused by restrictions on supplies from the EU," the report says.

The main importers of Ukrainian sugar during this period were:

• Turkey (19% of total exports),
• Libya,
• Somalia,
• Sri Lanka,
• North Macedonia.

From January 1, 2025, Ukraine will once again be able to supply sugar to EU countries. By June 1, 2025, domestic producers will be able to export 107.3 thousand tons of their products to the European Union.
