Ukraine may soon start exporting biomethane

As of January 2025, three biomethane production plants are operating in Ukraine, and four more are planned to be launched within the year. This was announced by the Chairman of the Board of the Public Association "Bioenergy Association of Ukraine" Heorhiy Geletukha.
The first two biomethane production plants, each with a capacity of 3 million m3 per year, were commissioned in September and November 2024. In January 2025, a third plant with a capacity of 11 million m3 of gas per year was launched.
If all the plants operate at full capacity, they will together produce 17 million cubic meters of methane annually. Negotiations with potential buyers are currently underway, and Ukraine may soon begin exporting gas.
During the year, it is planned to launch 4 more plants, which will increase domestic biomethane production to 111 million m3 per year.
In early October, VITAGRO began pumping about 6,000 tons of cubic meters of biomethane per day into the Ukrainian gas transmission system. It was later joined by Gorodishche-Pustovarivskaya Agrarian Company (GOPAC), which is part of the Hals Agro agricultural holding and supplies 2-3,000 cubic meters of biomethane to storage facilities daily.
