Ukraine exported 7.4 million tons of agricultural products in May

In May 2024, Ukraine reduced the export of agricultural products by 11% compared to April to 7.4 million tons.
May became the first during the period of full-scale invasion of the month, when exports decreased not under the pressure of external factors. The stable operation of the own sea corridor made it possible to make exports quite predictable, so some farmers began to hold back grain sales in anticipation of an increase in prices at the end of the season. The export volumes were also affected by the reduction of transitory stocks.
In general, the export of agricultural products decreased in May compared to April as follows:
- grain crops - by 12% to 5.5 million tons (corn 67%, wheat 30%, barley 3%),
- oil crops - by 35% to 207.4 thousand tons (soybean 54%, rapeseed 35%, sunflower 7%),
- cakes (after oil extraction) - by 17% to 509.9 thousand tons (sunflower 87%, soybean 13%),
- other types of agricultural products - by 3% to 409.8 thousand tons.
At the same time, the export of vegetable oils grew by 15% to 763,700 tons (sunflower 94%, soybean 5% and rapeseed 2%).
The export of almost all types of agricultural products decreased in May, only the export of vegetable oils increased. Already in June, harvesting of winter wheat, barley and rapeseed will begin in Ukraine, which will contribute to the recovery of export volumes.
