In the second half of December, Ukraine was able to increase the pace of grain exports

In the second half of December, the situation with grain exports from Ukraine improved after new export registration rules came into effect at the beginning of the month and exporting companies had difficulties registering tax invoices due to the lack of limits, which are calculated using a special formula that is not available to enterprises. These limits are controlled by the tax service, but it does not provide information on them to exporters.

During December 13-19, grain exports from Ukraine increased by 91% compared to the previous week to 955 thousand tons.

According to the State Customs Service, in the 2024/25 MY (as of December 20), Ukraine exported 20.317 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, which is 27% higher than the corresponding figure of the previous season (16.013 million tons). At the same time, 1.942 million tons of grain were exported in December, which is 50% lower than the similar figure in December 2023 (2.917 million tons).

Yes, exports increased compared to the previous season

  • wheat - from 6.723 to 9.424 million tons,
  • barley – from 0.946 to 1.95 million tons,
  • corn – from 8.206 to 8.623 million tons,
  • rye – from 1 to 10.8 thousand tons.

At the same time, flour exports decreased from 54.5 to 36 thousand tons, in particular wheat - from 52 to 32.9 thousand tons.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy believes that Ukraine is approaching the second historical record for agricultural exports. If in 2023 67.3 million tons of grain and oilseeds were exported for $22.1 billion, then in 11 months of 2024 72.7 million tons of grain were already shipped, and by the end of the year exports may amount to 77 million tons, and their value may reach $24.5 billion.

The share of deliveries to the EU in total exports fell from 60% to 55% compared to last year, as Ukraine opens new sales markets and resumes deliveries to its traditional buyers.
