In 2025, global feed production grew by 3%

According to World Grain, in 2025, global feed production increased by 3% or 40 million tons compared to the previous year to 1.44 billion tons. The report was based on a survey conducted among 38,837 feed mills in 142 countries.

However, production growth was uneven and was due not so much to an increase in livestock numbers as to structural changes, increased productivity, and changes in production accounting.

Main areas of feed consumption:

  • broilers - 400.379 million tons (+3.7%),
  • laying hens - 180.126 million tons (+3.2%),
  • pigs - 380.907 million tons (+3.0%),
  • dairy meat - 170.294 million tons (+2.6%),
  • beef - 134.181 million tons (+0.5%),
  • aquaculture - 55.470 million tons (+4.7%)
  • pets - 39.276 million tons (+2.4%),
  • horses - 10.194 million tons (+0.2%).

At the same time, the TOP-10 largest producers remained unchanged compared to 2024, and their share in global production amounted to 65%. Moreover, the first 3 countries on the list provided 48% of all feed production.

The main global feed producers are:

  • China – 330.063 million tons (+4),
  • USA – 267.383 million tons (-0.8%)
  • Brazil – 89.904 million tons (-2.8%),
  • India – 57.729 million tons (+4.5%),
  • Mexico – 41.883 million tons (+1.2%),
  • Russian Federation – 38.347 million tons (+1.1%)
  • Spain – 37.507 million tons (-3.4%),
  • Vietnam – 26.524 million tons (+2.6%),
  • India – 25.48 million tons (+3.8%),
  • Japan – 24.006 million tons (-1.3%).

Asia remains the world’s largest feed production hub (559 million tonnes) and is growing thanks to industrialisation. North America saw production decline by 0.7% to 288 million tonnes due to declining livestock numbers, although the industry continues to drive efficiency gains, recipe optimisation and consolidation across plants. The European sector was differentiated but resilient in 2025, growing by 1% to 274 million tonnes. Large global soybean, rapeseed, wheat and maize crops have depressed global prices and boosted processing margins. Latin America increased feed production to 204 million tonnes, with demand growing by 2.8% thanks to strong exports and low grain prices. Africa and the Middle East increased production to 102.5 million tonnes due to increased use of compound feed and recovery of livestock following disease. In Oceania, feed production increased by 3.4% to 11.1 million tonnes due to population growth and increased exports.
