In the 2024/25 MY, Ukraine reduced grain exports by 25%, the EU by 31%, the Russian Federation by 50%

According to the State Customs Service, in the 2024/25 MY, Ukraine exported 40.499 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, in particular in June - 2.217 million tons, while in the 2023/24 MY, 50.553 million tons of grain were exported, of which in June - 3.621 million tons.

 

Thus, in the 2024/25 MY, the export of the following crops decreased (compared to the previous season):

  • wheat – from 18.3 to 15.704 million tons,
  • barley – from 2.477 to 2.318 million tons,
  • corn – from 29.233 to 21.788 million tons.

At the same time, rye exports increased from 1.6 to 10.8 thousand tons.

 

Flour exports in the 2024/25 MY decreased compared to the previous season from 97.8 to 70.4 thousand tons, in particular wheat - from 92.4 to 65.8 thousand tons.

 

In the 2024/25 MY, EU countries reduced exports of grain and its processed products by 31% to 31.53 million tons compared to the previous season, in particular:

  • soft wheat – by 35% to 20.187 million tons,
  • soft wheat flour in grain equivalent – by 1% to 489.6 thousand tons,
  • barley – by 22% to 4.583 million tons,
  • malt (in grain equivalent) – by 6% to 2.934 million tons,
  • corn – by 41% to 2.352 million tons,
  • rye – by 58% to 79.8 thousand tons,
  • oats – by 32% to 76.1 thousand tons.

 

The largest European grain exporter was Romania, which supplied 5.473 million tons of soft wheat and 143.9 thousand tons of durum wheat, 1.993 million tons of barley and 1.203 million tons of corn to world markets.

 

The main buyers of European grain were:

  • soft wheat – Nigeria (2.805 million tons), Morocco (2.656 million tons), Algeria (1.828 million tons), Great Britain (1.244 million tons) and Egypt (1.193 million tons),
  • durum wheat – Tunisia (212.1 thousand tons), Algeria (143.6 thousand tons), Libya, Great Britain and Nigeria,
  • barley – Saudi Arabia (1.039 million tons), Morocco (609.9 thousand tons), Jordan (551.3 thousand tons), Algeria (485.5 thousand tons), Libya (334.9 thousand tons),
  • corn – Great Britain (890.4 thousand tons), Turkey (396.4 thousand tons), Lebanon (233.5 thousand tons), Israel (215.4 thousand tons),
  • malt – Brazil (211.6 thousand tons), Japan (194.5 thousand tons), Great Britain (153.4 thousand tons) and other countries.

 

According to preliminary data, in the 2024/25 MY, the Russian Federation reduced grain exports compared to the 2023/24 MY by 50% from 73 to 46.5 million tons, in particular wheat - by 28% from 53 to 41.5 million tons. Moreover, 1.12 million tons of wheat were exported in June, which is 4 times lower than the figure for June last year.
