In the 1st quarter of 2025, China reduced imports of major agricultural crops by 40.8%

According to the General Administration of Customs of China, in the 1st quarter of 2025, imports of major agricultural crops decreased by 40.8% to 22.7 million tons compared to the same period in 2024, and in monetary terms - by 41.2% to $9.7 billion. In March alone, the physical volume of imports decreased by 30% compared to February to 5.34 million tons.

 

In 2023, China increased imports of major agricultural crops by 11.7%, but in 2024 it decreased by 2.3% to 157.52 million tons.

 

In the first quarter of 2025, China imported 13.61 million tons of soybeans worth $6,301.6 million, of which 9.13 million tons were imported from the United States and 3.59 million tons from Brazil. Soybean imports in March 2025 decreased by 36.8% compared to March 2024 to 3.5 million tons due to the trade war between the United States and China.
