Turkish analysts expect a decrease in wheat production in the country in the new season

Adverse weather anomalies, including the prolonged drought in March, may reduce wheat production in Turkey in the new season.
According to the forecast of the National Grain Council (UHK), this year's harvest will amount to no more than 18.65 million tons of wheat, although it was previously estimated at 20 million tons, FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE reports.
The reason for the decrease in yield was the dry weather in March, which was replaced in April by heavy precipitation and abnormally low air temperatures, which negatively affected the development of crops.
According to Anadolu Agency, despite unfavorable forecasts, Turkish farmers continue to expand wheat acreage, which has increased from 6.8 million hectares to 7.6 million hectares over the past three years.
In a May report, USDA experts estimated Turkey's wheat production in the 2025/26 MY at 19 million tons, which would correspond to the current season's level and be 2 million tons below the 2023/24 MY figure.
