Tunisia will take second place among the largest olive oil producers in 2025/26, ahead of Italy and Greece
According to a new forecast from the International Olive Council (IOC), a significant shift in power among the world's largest olive oil producers will occur in the 2025/2026 MY.
Spain will remain the unchanging leader of the world ranking, while Tunisia will take second place, bypassing such traditional leaders as Turkey, Greece and Italy.
According to the IRO forecast, in the 2025/26 MY, global olive oil production will decrease by 4% compared to the previous season to 3.44 million tons. The main producers will be:
- Spain – 1.372 million tons (-3% compared to the previous season),
- Tunisia – 450 thousand tons (+32%),
- Italy – 300 thousand tons (+21%),
- Turkey – 290 thousand tons (-43%),
- Greece – 220 thousand tons (-12%).
Recall that in the 2024/25 MY, the leaders in olive oil production were Spain, Turkey, Tunisia, Greece and Italy. In the new season, Italy, despite an increase in production, will move from fifth to only third place, and Tunisia to second.
