Rates of sowing of spring crops is substantially higher than last year

Weather conditions in the spring of this year in the EU, Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan contribute to the planting and obtaining a good germination of spring crops.

According to FranceAgriMer, France as of may 11, the number of planted corn acreage per week increased from 77% to 90%, whereas last year the figure was 85%. However, the amount of wheat in good or excellent condition for the week decreased from 57% to 51%, whereas a year ago the figure was 80%. Also the number of crops of winter barley in good or excellent condition for the week decreased from 53% to 51%, and spring barley from 65% to 62%.

In Ukraine, as of May 14, field work was carried out on 14.1 million hectares, which is 91% of the projected 15.5 million (+ 400 thousand hectares compared to last year). or 80% of the forecast of 1.4 million hectares) and buckwheat (21 thousand hectares or 28% of the projected 75 thousand hectares).

In Russia as of may 15, spring crops were sown 31.2 million hectares, or 60.1% of the forecast (2019 – 29.3 million hectares), in particular

sugar beet – 903,3 thousand ha of 95.6%,

sunflower – 5.8 million hectares, or 72.1 per cent (to 2019 5.7 million ha),

spring rapeseed – 749,8 hectares, or 58%,

soy – 1.1 million ha or 34.6% of the forecast.

• spring grains – 18.5 million hectares or 63.3% of the plan (to 2019 – 16.5 million ha),

of sowing areas of spring grain crops on a specified date grew in comparison with similar date of last year:

the

corn – 2 to 2.4 million hectares, or 86.8%,

barley remained at the level of 5.9 million ha, or 75.3% of the plan.

In Kazakhstan, according to the agriculture Ministry of the country, as of may 15, spring crops were sown 4,529 million ha or 24.3% of the forecast, whereas on the same date last year, was seeded only 2.2 million hectares or 12% of the plan.

In Belarus on a specified date spring crops were sown 2,437 million ha of 95.6% of the plan, including corn and 1.1 million hectares or 99%. In the first week of may, completed sowing of early spring grains and legumes, canola, sugar beet, flax and potatoes.
