Romanian wheat prices hit seasonal highs and exceeded Ukrainian and Russian wheat prices

According to UkrAgroConsult, the average price for Romanian milling wheat increased by $10/t during the week to the highest level of the season of $248/t FOB Constanta, but it remains competitive for Turkish importers.

Prices rose based on data from the WASDE report, according to which the wheat harvest in the EU will decrease by 9 million tons compared to last year, including in exporting countries - Germany, Romania, and Bulgaria.

According to the forecast, in 2026, the wheat harvest in Romania will be 2 million tons less than in 2025. However, UkrAgroConsult considers this estimate to be preliminary, as it is based on the average yield of the last 5 years, therefore the harvest is estimated at 12 million tons, which will almost correspond to the level of the previous season. This will be facilitated by an increase in sowing areas, good weather conditions, especially the amount of rain in May, which may lead to adjustments to the forecasts.

Prices for Russian wheat with 12.5% protein rose to $244/t FOB, so Ukrainian wheat, offered at $238-243/t FOB, became the cheapest in the Black Sea region.

Against the backdrop of a sharp increase in prices for American wheat, Black Sea wheat also rose in price by $5-6/t FOB in May, so now only Argentine wheat can compete with Ukrainian wheat in price.
