Romanian sunflower prices near record high

Sunflower prices in Romania are rising rapidly amid unusually high demand from Turkey, which has increased sunflower imports from the Black Sea region due to a reduction in its own harvest.

The situation is complicated by regional shortages and logistical problems in importing Ukrainian sunflower oil, as well as internal competition between Romanian processors and exporters.

Currently, the country's sunflower export volumes have already exceeded the average annual figures.

Sunflower prices are currently:

• in Romania – $695-700/t FOB,
• Turkey – $700-715/t CIF,
• Bulgaria – $690/t FOB.
