Shipping in the Black Sea will resume no earlier than autumn, but Ukraine is working on exports through the Baltic ports

Under the most optimistic conditions, navigation in the Black Sea can be partially resumed in autumn, but only if several conditions are met: an armistice agreement is reached, navigation is ensured, and water is demined. This was stated by the director of the Center for Transport Strategies S. Vovk.

He believes that even if the war stops tomorrow, the ports will not be able to work for another 2 months due to mines in the Black Sea, which require military minesweepers to destroy. However, Turkey now forbids warships to move across the Bosphorus.

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine believes that the main requirement for the resumption of shipping will be a guarantee of non-attack on ships moving to / from domestic ports. Unlocking ports cannot be a separate part of the overall conflict resolution.

Another option could be to escort cargo ships with a special military convoy against the background of bilateral agreements on humanitarian corridors, - said co-owner of the TIS port terminal Andriy Stavnitser. He said that the United Nations Shipping Agency in Somalia has such experience, and the possibility of such deliveries is being discussed, but there are no guarantees for the safety of the corridors.

Poland and the Baltic countries are helping Ukraine to organize new logistics routes to ensure the export of agricultural products, the Latvian Ministry of Communications said. On Wednesday, the Minister of Railways of Latvia discussed this possibility during a meeting with the Ministers of Transport of Poland and the Baltic States, the Ministers of Infrastructure and Agricultural Policy of Ukraine.

It was stated at the meeting that all three major Latvian ports and their grain terminals are ready to accept cargo from Ukraine, but there are significant difficulties with their delivery to the Baltic States. Latvia together with colleagues from Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine will work on solving these problems.

The German government plans to organize the transportation of grain from Ukraine with the help of the railway company DB Cargo to support agricultural production in Ukraine and compensate for the lack of sea transport blocked by Russia, - reports Rail.insider with reference to Handelsblatt. Negotiations are currently underway with representatives of the railways of Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania.

The industry is talking about sending up to 20 thousand trains, each of which is capable of transporting up to 52 containers or several thousand tons of cargo.
