Favorable weather in October allowed to accelerate the pace of sowing winter crops in Ukraine

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, as of November 3, 4.848 million hectares or 89.3% of the planned area (5.429 million hectares) were sown with winter grain crops in Ukraine, while last year, as of November 4, 4.908 million hectares or 95% of the forecast were sown with winter grain crops.

In particular, on the specified date, winter crops were sown:

• wheat – 4.304 million hectares or 90.2% of the forecast (4.77 million hectares last year);
• barley – 478.7 thousand hectares or 80.8% of the forecast (592.3 thousand hectares);
• rye – 65.9 thousand hectares or 99.7% of the forecast (66.1 thousand hectares).

Farmers in Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Ternopil, and Chernihiv regions have already completed the sowing campaign.

Sowing of winter rapeseed has been completed in 14 regions. Currently, 1.06 million hectares or 94.4% of the planned area (1.124 million hectares) have been sown with it, while last year, as of November 4, 2024, 1.074 million hectares or 96% of the forecast were sown with it.

According to the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, conditions for the development of winter crops in Ukraine significantly improved at the end of October. Rains significantly replenished soil moisture reserves, and in most regions the level of productive moisture is assessed as sufficient or optimal.

Even in traditionally arid regions - Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Odessa regions - October rains significantly improved the situation and contributed to the timely vegetation of crops.

Tillering has already begun in early winter wheat crops, and in late crops, grain germination, emergence of shoots, and formation of the third leaf are observed, but they lack effective heat.

However, forecasters predict that temperatures will rise in early November, which will contribute to the accelerated vegetation of winter crops across the country, especially in the southern regions.
