Romania plans to harvest record wheat and rapeseed crops in 2025

Thanks to sufficient spring rainfall and favorable temperature conditions, Romania plans to harvest record wheat and rapeseed crops in 2025, Grain Central reports.
According to the forecast of the Romanian Agricultural Ministry, despite the reduction in the area sown with grain crops to the lowest level since 2012 of 2.13 million hectares, this year's harvest of winter crops should be a record.
The European Commission has raised its wheat yield forecast for Romania twice in the past two months, currently estimated at 4.97 t/ha, 7.8% above last year's figure and 20.9% above the 5-year average (4.11 t/ha). This could put wheat production at 11-13.3 million tonnes, 18.8% above the 2024 harvest (9.29 million tonnes), the lowest in a decade.
The area sown to rapeseed in the country this year exceeded 700,000 hectares for the first time. The European Commission forecasts that the average rapeseed yield will be 2.81 t/ha, and total production will reach a record 2 million t compared to 1.16 million t harvested in 2024.
Traditionally, the largest area in Romania is allocated to corn. In 2025, it is planned to sow 2.26 million hectares, which will be 5.8% lower than the 5-year average. According to the European Commission, corn production will amount to 10.1 million tons with an average yield of 4.48 tons/hectare.
