Argentina's sunflower production forecast for 2025/26 MY increased again
Experts at the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange have increased the forecast for sunflower production in Argentina in the 2025/26 MY by another 200 thousand tons to 6.4 million tons due to an upward adjustment in the estimated sowing area. Currently, sunflower has been harvested in 61.1% of the country's area.
Soybean and corn production forecasts for the 2025/26 MY remain unchanged at 48.5 and 57 million tons, respectively.
According to Oil World's forecast, in the event of favorable weather in the 2026/27 MY, global sunflower production will increase compared to the current season from 56.9 million tons to a record 62-63 million tons, exceeding the previous record of the 2023/24 MY (59.4 million tons), as the sowing area will increase from 32.8 million hectares to a record 34.1 million hectares due to farmers' partial abandonment of growing corn and other crops that require fertilizers and switching to soybeans and sunflowers.
It is expected that in the EU, sunflower sowing areas will increase by 0.2 million hectares compared to the current season to 4.9 million hectares (mostly in France, Hungary, Bulgaria and Spain), due to which production will increase by 1 million tons to 9.6-9.7 million tons.
In Ukraine, the sunflower harvest in the 2026/27 MY will grow to 12.5-13 million tons, in the Russian Federation - to 20-21 million tons.
