The sowing campaign in Ukraine is almost complete, the harvest of grains and oilseeds may reach 81–83 million tons
Ukrainian farmers have almost completed the spring sowing campaign. As of today, 5.88 million hectares have been sown with spring grain and leguminous crops. In total, over 20 million hectares have been sown with winter and spring grain and oilseed crops for the 2026 harvest, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine reported.
The structure of spring grain and legume crops sown includes:
- spring wheat - 186.6 thousand hectares;
- spring barley - 713.6 thousand hectares;
- peas - 259.7 thousand hectares;
- oats - 137.5 thousand hectares;
- buckwheat - 55.1 thousand hectares;
- millet - 38.5 thousand hectares.
The largest area among spring crops is traditionally occupied by corn, with crops totaling 4.37 million hectares.
A total of 7 million hectares were sown with industrial crops, including:
- sunflower - 4.86 million hectares;
- soybeans — 1.99 million hectares;
- sugar beets - 190 thousand hectares.
As noted by the Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, Oleksiy Sobolev, despite the abnormally cold spring, record frosts and constant shelling, Ukrainian farmers were able to almost completely complete the sowing campaign.
The ministry assesses the prospects for the new season as cautiously optimistic. The total harvest of grain and oilseed crops in 2026 is forecast at 81–83 million tons.
Grain production is expected to be in the range of 60-61 million tonnes, in line with last year's figures. At the same time, wheat harvest is forecast at 22-23 million tonnes due to reduced acreage and lower yield expectations.
The corn harvest could exceed 32 million tons, and barley production is estimated at approximately 5 million tons.
The outlook for oilseeds looks more positive. Sunflower production is forecast to exceed 12 million tonnes, up almost 16% year-on-year. Soybean harvest is expected to be around 5 million tonnes and rapeseed to be around 3.5 million tonnes.
The completion of the sowing campaign and favorable forecasts for the oilseed harvest create the prerequisites for maintaining Ukraine's significant export potential in the 2026/27 MY season.
