Despite hostilities and fuel shortages, Ukraine is actively pursuing a sowing campaign
Ukrainian farmers are actively sowing, despite the difficult conditions in the country. The sowing of spring early crops has been completed in Vinnytsia, Volyn, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Kirovohrad, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil and Khmelnytsky regions. In general, almost 80% of the planned areas are sown with such crops.
As of 05.05.22, 14,138.8 thousand hectares were planned to be sown with spring agricultural crops in the territory controlled by Ukraine, which is 2,775.5 thousand hectares less than last year's figure - 16,916.3 thousand hectares. According to military administrations, sowing work is being carried out in 23 regions of Ukraine, except Luhansk, where hostilities are taking place in almost the entire territory.
As of this date, all categories of farms have sown spring crops:
- wheat - 186.1 thousand hectares,
- barley - 853.8 thousand hectares,
- rapeseed - 26.2 thousand hectares,
- oats - 153.5 thousand hectares,
- peas - 119.6 thousand hectares,
- buckwheat - 5 thousand hectares,
- millet - 18.2 thousand hectares,
- corn - 1976.6 thousand hectares,
- sunflower - 2399.3 thousand hectares,
- soybeans - 335.5 thousand hectares,
- sugar beets - 175.4 thousand hectares,
- potatoes - 850.8 thousand hectares.
Agricultural enterprises have completed the first fertilization of winter crops with nitrogen fertilizers, and continue to care for crops.
It will be recalled that according to the State Statistics Service, the area under winter crops for the 2022 harvest decreased by 0.3 million hectares to 7.6 million hectares compared to the corresponding figures of the previous year, in particular:
- winter wheat and triticale - by 0.3 million hectares to 6.5 million hectares,
- rye - on 63 thousand hectares to 109 thousand hectares,
- barley - on 163 thousand hectares to 969 thousand hectares.
At the same time, the area under winter rapeseed increased compared to 2021 by 442 thousand hectares to 1.414 million hectares.
