Polish strikers have already damaged 4 trains with Ukrainian grain, but the Polish authorities do not react to this

On the night of February 25, more than 200 tons of Ukrainian corn, which was transiting to the port of Gdansk for export to third countries, was dumped at the Kotomiezh station from 8 semi-cars. This was the fourth case of vandalism on Poland's railways in recent weeks.

The Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine O. Kubrakov called the situation "the fourth case of impunity and irresponsibility", stressing that Ukraine fulfills its obligations and does not export grain crops and rapeseed to Poland.

Yesterday, the President of Ukraine Zelenskyi said that there are many opportunities to resolve the situation, and called on the new Polish government to solve the problem of the destruction of Ukrainian grain as soon as possible.

We will remind that the Ukrainian authorities invited the Polish government to meet at the border on February 23, but Polish Prime Minister D. Tusk refused the meeting and proposed to hold negotiations on March 28 in Warsaw.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine D. Shmyhal informed the Polish farmers about the following:

  • for 5 months, Ukraine has not sold its corn, rapeseed and sunflower to Poland;
  • from September 16, 2023, deliveries of Ukrainian grain to Poland are possible only with the permission of the latter, but there are currently no such permits;
  • Ukrainian grain passes through Poland only in transit;
  • only 5% of Ukraine's agricultural exports pass through Poland, most deliveries are made via the Black Sea corridor;
  • the border blockade brings losses not only to Ukraine, but also to Poland, as the latter exports $12 billion worth of goods to Ukraine every year.

However, on the eve of the local elections, which will be held on April 7, Polish politicians continue to flirt with farmers, so a radical solution to the situation should not be expected in the near future.

At the same time, such protests are used by pro-Russian forces, who speak with the slogans "Putin will come and restore order in Kyiv and Brussels" and pour Ukrainian grain from wagons and trucks.

At the "Rava-Ruska - Grebenne" checkpoint, protesters poured nails and screws onto the road so that Ukrainian drivers could not continue driving. Police and utility workers arrived at the scene and are clearing the road to ensure traffic.

The harsh reaction of the Polish authorities to such provocations could return the protests to a peaceful course, which would improve the conditions for negotiations, but the impunity of the protesters will only increase the disorder on the EU border to the satisfaction of the Russian Federation.
