Poland bans the use of GMO animal feed

From 01.01.2023, the Law on the Prohibition of the Use of GMO Feeds for Feeding Animals came into force in Poland. According to it, from January 1, 2025, the use and sale of GMO feed and genetically modified organisms used in feed will be prohibited. The law has already been adopted by the Seimas and the Senate and signed by the country's president.

We will remind that 19 EU countries have banned the cultivation of GMO plants on their territories since 2016.

And the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the first reading adopted draft law No. 5839 dated 05.08.21 on the regulation of the cultivation and circulation of GMOs in Ukraine, which actually allows the cultivation of GMO plants. The agricultural community, in particular the Ukrainian Grain Association, the Ukrainian Seed Association and the "Danube Soy" Association, insist on finalizing the draft law in accordance with EU requirements regarding the circulation of GMOs and prohibiting the cultivation of GMO plants in open systems, as this may lead to the loss of the premium EU market for domestic farmers and billions in losses for the industry.

Usually, on the world market, GMO products are traded at a discount of 20% or more, and during storage and transportation, it is not possible to separate them from non-GMO products, so it will be difficult to avoid mixing traditional products and GMOs. So, at the exit, all grain will be labeled as GMO, producers of both GMO grain and traditional products will suffer losses, and Ukraine will lose its reputation as a producer of GMO-free products, which is very important in the world market.
