Negotiations between the American delegation and the Russian Federation did not bring hope for a truce

The American delegation, led by Witkoff and Kushner, which included representatives of the National Security Council, the State Department, and the Treasury Department, met with Putin and other Russian officials in Moscow on September 5 to discuss the next steps toward a peaceful settlement. On September 6, the American delegation arrived in Ukraine, where it met with Zelensky and representatives of the Ukrainian government. It should be recalled that Witkoff has been to Moscow 8 times, but has never been to Ukraine, and this time the Russians demanded that Witkoff first visit the Russian Federation and only then Ukraine.

According to Bloomberg and Reuters, the Kremlin has stepped up demands to end the war due to confidence in its military superiority on the front and is refusing to accept a ceasefire agreement along the front line until the entire Donetsk region is captured. The Kremlin expects to reach the region's borders by early 2027 and continues to demand the demilitarization of Ukraine and the cessation of supplies of Western weapons and intelligence. Putin is ready to stop the conflict only on his own terms, and expectations for the results of the visit of American negotiators to Moscow are assessed as extremely low.

Some media outlets have published the peace terms presented to Trump's envoys. Among them:

• Complete ceasefire.
• Territorial concessions in favor of the Russian Federation - the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbas and part of the Zaporizhzhia region, where it is later planned to deploy a UN peacekeeping contingent.
• Referendum and elections after the implementation of the agreements.
• Certain changes to the Constitution of Ukraine.
• Refusal to forcibly return territories that will come under the control of the Russian Federation.
• Consolidation of Ukraine's non-aligned status and refusal to join NATO and other military alliances.
• Limitation of the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
• Separate agreements on the language issue.
• A full-fledged peace treaty should be signed by the new Ukrainian government after the referendum and elections.
• The agreement must be ratified through a special procedure at the UN.

Following the results of negotiations with US President's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that all three rounds of these negotiations were very substantive, and any ceasefire negotiations are very important.

The Kremlin is currently delaying negotiations in anticipation of the completion of the Duma elections, the results of local elections in Germany, and the Trump-Xi meeting in two weeks.

In the elections to the parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, according to preliminary data, the right-wing ADG party won with a result of 44.5%, and its leader Alice Weidel (a lesbian who speaks out against homosexuals) stated that after her party's victory in local elections in other states, the Merz government, which supports Ukraine, not Germany, should resign by the end of the year. So Putin hopes that, following the US, Europe will refuse to support Ukraine after the elections, and is ready to wait another year or two for this.
