Before exporting to the EU, Ukraine will check whether agricultural products were grown on deforested lands
On May 20, the Government of Ukraine adopted a resolution introducing an experimental mechanism for checking agricultural products to determine whether they were grown on lands where deforestation or forest degradation occurred after December 31, 2020, the Ministry of Economy reported.
This will accelerate the digitalization of the agricultural sector, prepare Ukrainian farmers for the requirements of EU Regulation 2023/1115, which will come into effect in 2027, allow agricultural products to maintain access to the European market, and help Ukraine fulfill its obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU.
To verify products in the State Agrarian Register, a special geographic information system will be created, which will allow tracking the entire path of the product - from the site where it was grown to export.
The farmer will submit an application through an electronic account at DAR, the data will be checked in interaction with the land cadastre and the register of property rights through the Trembita system, after which an extract on compliance with EU requirements will be generated.
Recall that in the EU, the implementation of EUDR requirements was postponed for large operators until December 30, 2026, and for small ones until June 30, 2027. Large operators are companies that meet at least two of the three criteria: have more than 250 employees, an annual turnover of more than EUR 50 million, or EUR 30 million in assets. Small operators include individuals and enterprises with up to 50 employees and an annual turnover for the relevant goods of less than EUR 10 million.
