45% less area was sown with winter rapeseed in Ukraine at the optimal time than last year

Due to the dry weather in August and September in Ukraine, sowing of winter crops is very slow. On the left bank, the planned 1.123 million hectares will not have time to sow winter rapeseed at the optimal time.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of September 16, winter rape is still being sown in 18 oblasts of Ukraine, and sowing has already been completed in the Volyn, Lviv, Rivne, and Ternopil oblasts. So far, 688.4 thousand hectares or 61% of the planned 1.123 million hectares have been sown with winter rapeseed, while last year on this date 999.6 thousand hectares or 82.5% of the forecast were sown. In addition, 360.3 thousand hectares or 7% of the projected 5.188 million hectares were sown with winter cereals, compared to 584.6 thousand hectares or 11.4% of the area last year, and their sowing is carried out in 19 regions of Ukraine.
In particular, on September 16, sown:
- winter wheat – 340.3 thousand hectares or 8% of the forecasted 4.479 million hectares (514 thousand hectares last year),
- winter barley - 16.5 thousand ha (47 thousand ha last year) or 3% of the forecasted 638.5 thousand ha,
- winter rye - 3.4 thousand hectares (24 thousand hectares) or 5% of 70.5 thousand hectares.
In the next 7-10 days, significant precipitation is not expected, and temperatures will reach 20-25 o C, which will not allow to accelerate sowing. But in the absence of weather forecasts, farmers will not sow rapeseed in dry land.
