India's Agriculture Ministry predicts record wheat and rapeseed harvests in 2025

India's Ministry of Agriculture has raised its wheat production forecast for the country in the 2024/25 MY from 115.4 million tons to a record 117.5 million tons (113.3 million tons in the previous season), compared to March estimates, Reuters reports.

This increase in production will be due to the expansion of the area sown with high-yielding wheat varieties.

It is expected that compared to the previous season, the country's total grain production will increase by 21.7 million tons to 354 million tons, in particular rice - from 137.8 to 149 million tons.

The Ministry of Agriculture predicts that if the above forecasts are justified, India will be able to do without wheat imports next season and will strengthen its position as the world leader in rice exports.
