The interbank exchange rate of the dollar exceeded UAH 41/$

Last week, the interbank exchange rate of the dollar rose to UAH 41/$, so experts expected it to decrease somewhat this week. However, yesterday the dollar continued to appreciate and reached a record 41.14-41.19 UAH/$.
On July 16, the National Bank set the official exchange rate of the dollar at UAH 41.0107/$, and the euro at UAH 44.7263/€.
The driver of growth is the strengthening of problems in the country's economy, caused by a shortage of electricity against the background of abnormal heat, as well as a reduction in the export of agricultural products due to forecasts of a decrease in the harvest.
The increase in imports puts pressure on the hryvnia exchange rate, which now depends on the inflow of international aid.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Budget Issues, R. Pidlasa, said that UAH 400-500 billion is not enough to finance the country's budget in 2024.
In view of the missile attacks, with which the Russian Federation is destroying Ukrainian energy and critical infrastructure facilities, the National Bank lowered its forecast for GDP growth in 2024 from 3.6% to 3%, but noted that despite the attack, the economy continues to recover, and real GDP in 1 -th quarter of 2024 grew.
On July 8-13, the NBU reduced currency sales by $99.3 million to $532.36 million compared to the previous week, and purchased $250,000. Since the beginning of the year, the NBU sold $15.45 billion and bought $117.6 million at the interbank, while in 2023 it sold $28.829 billion and bought $219.85 million. The net sale of currency in June amounted to $2.99 billion, which is slightly inferior to the figure in May, when it was the highest in 2024, $3.07 billion.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the cash rate of the dollar is 40.8-41.25 UAH/$, and the euro is 44.40-44.95 UAH/€ (buying - selling). The cash rate almost does not differ from the interbank rate, since the population does not have the resources to buy currency.
