China doubled imports of sunflower meal, and Ukraine's share in imports reached 72%
In the 2025/26 MY, China refused to purchase canola meal from Canada, as a result of which it significantly increased imports of sunflower meal. At the same time, it increased supplies of meal from Ukraine and Kazakhstan and reduced purchases from the Russian Federation.
Over the seven months of the current season, Ukraine's share in total imports of sunflower meal to China increased compared to the corresponding period of the previous season from 57% or 461 thousand tons to 72% or 1.2 million tons, and Kazakhstan's share increased from 5% or 36 thousand tons to 9% or 154 thousand tons.
At the same time, the share of the Russian Federation decreased from 25% or 205 thousand tons to 11% or 182 thousand tons.
Bulgaria, which also entered the top four suppliers, reduced its share in sunflower meal imports from 13% to 8%, although it increased supplies to 133 thousand tons.
Experts explain such changes in the export structure by the refusal of Chinese importers of canola meal from Canada and the search for alternative suppliers.
