China has agreed to terms for the import of peas from Ukraine

The authorities of the People's Republic of China have agreed to a phytosanitary protocol that will allow the import of peas from Ukraine.

"The Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the State Consumer Service and the community have been working on this issue for 3 years," Antonina Sklyarenko, president of the Council of Bean Producers and Consumers of Ukraine, said during her speech at the Agro Ukraine Summit, and expressed her hope that now farmers will be interested in increasing the area of sowing and production of peas. Currently, the specified protocol is being developed by the State Consumer Service of Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2023 Ukraine increased pea production by 48% compared to the previous year, from 269 to 399.5 thousand tons. From July to November 2023, 132.7 thousand tons of peas were exported, which is 22% higher than the corresponding indicator 2022/23 MR.

Export demand prices for peas remain at a low level of $230-250/t with delivery to the port, while processors offer UAH 10,000-10,500/t with delivery to the factory.

Prospects for the export of Ukrainian peas to China will support demand and prices.
